The ambitious programme for expansion of the high speed rail network in France encompasses over 3000 km of additional new lines. The programme, which inserts the French network into the European network and aims to meet the
challenge of genuinely sustainable mobility, must also be flanked by several projects providing access to high speed rail for a few regions not yet connected to it. It requires the infrastructure manager both to manage the growing cost of projects and
optimise revenue through an appropriate level of infrastructure charges which take account of what the end customer is prepared to pay.
