In June 2009 final statutory approval was given to what was described as the largest rail infrastructure project in the Czech capital for a century. Entitled Nové Spojeni (New Connection), the project involved construction of a new four-track line north of the city centre. This is now allowing a fundamental recast of rail services into Praha, both domestic and international, and has established a common connection between the Czech Republic's rail Corridors 1, 3 and 4, with similar technical and safety standards.
