Résumé

Promoting high quality research and education in the field of transport, within its region, is the main goal of the Benelux Interuniversity Association of Transport Economists - BIVEC-GIBET for short. Founded in 1978, in the course of a quarter century the Association has evolved from a small group of transport economists into a solid and broad-based network of a diversity of transport experts. Thus, it presently unites both academic staff and professional people qualified in fields such as transport economics, logistics, regional economics, transport geography and transport law. An important event of BIVEC-GIBET is the Transport Research Dayn, organized every two years; The third edition of the Transport Research Day was held on May 27, 2009 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels. This one-day conference provided the audience an overview of the current trends in transportation research in the Benelux. In total over seventy papers were presented in the fields of port economics, spatial planning, logistics, transport investments, automotive transport, travel behaviour, passenger transport, multimodal transport and traffic safety. This book contains a selection of the presented papers.
